Chalaadi glacier is one of the most popular trekking tours in Svaneti and picturesque place near Mestia. This walk is suitable both for physically fit tourists and families with children. Most of the trail goes along smooth paths, only small part of it is abandoned by stones and flooded by streams.
Svaneti Towers/Houses
Svaneti is called the land of a thousand towers. The towers of Svaneti are divided into watchtowers and clan towers. The purpose of watchtowers is clear. clan towers could serve whatever purpose - to store supplies, to shelter during avalanches or earthquakes, and to offer shelter during feuds, as the Svan are as impetuous as the Italians. The towers were built by the clan, and every single one of them is very old. The youngest of them is 700 years old.
